Cororna Virus CSEPS-COA Statement
March 19, 2020
Special, joint statement on Corona virus response from CSEPS and Colorado Optometric Association
With the recent Declaration of a State of Emergency by Governor Polis, including the closing of restaurants and bars across the state, and President Trump's stricter guidelines to contain the virus, CSEPS and the Colorado Optometric Association are requesting the cooperation of all Colorado eye care professionals in order to care for patients and assist in efforts to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. We urge Colorado doctors of optometry and physicians to carefully review the latest patient care guidance from federal, state and local governments. In addition, as recommended by the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC), outpatient visits and procedures that can be safely delayed should be postponed, particularly in elderly patients and those with comorbidities.

COA and CSEPS do not make this request lightly, and it is being done out of an abundance of caution during this historic public health emergency. Our priority during this uncharted time is the health and safety of Colorado patients and the eye care providers that serve them. As health care professionals, we all have a role to play in "flattening the curve" and these voluntary steps can help to slow the spread of the virus which is expected to surge in the coming days.
